The Block by New Kids on the Block
Released 9/2/08
You may not remember the New Kids on the Block from their glory days in the late 80s, but you do have them to thank (or blame, depending on how you look at it), for paving the way for boy bands like *NSync, Backstreet Boys and even the Jonas Brothers. Well, 14 years after NKOTB broke up, they’ve decided to return from boy band history to make a run at success yet again. “The Block” is their attempt. Sure, it has the typical pop/r&b vibe that’s so popular, but you’d think that the music would have matured as the guys did (they’re all in their late 30s). The lyrics on this latest album are all sexed-up and there really isn’t much substance at all. Lyrics like this are disturbing anytime, but the fact that it is a group of near 40-year-olds singing about “sexifying their love” is just plain nasty.
